Lizzie passed away peacefully on Monday 25th August 2003 after many years of ill health. She slipped away minutes after the last of our family, who were keeping vigil by her bedside left the room. She left behind her husband and best friend Frank, who adored her for the 64 years they were together. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary the April after she passed away. Her five children, Jean, Mary, Frances, Elizabeth and John all love her, and miss her dearly. There are also ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren who continue her legacy.
She was brought up in Partick, Glasgow until she met my Grandfather. They married and moved to Renfrew, where she and my Grandfather brought up their family... and where the vast majority of us still live and work today.
She was the matriarch of our family, and I know that she is quietly missed and thought of daily by each and every one of us. She influenced each of our lives in so many different ways. She was a generous, kind woman with a strong personality and a wicked sense of humour!
She also gave me the best piece of advice I have every had.
She once said to me never to go to sleep at night without telling the people close to you how much you love them. It may be the last chance you ever have. In the morning they may not be there. I was only about 10 years old and I've never forgotten that statement... and I never will. It was one of the most true and genuine gifts of advice i've ever been given.
